Today has already seen a fair amount of achievements, discoveries, and milestones and it’s not even over yet. All topics will be discussed during #bmgchat on Wednesday from 3-5pm ET – Come to chat about everything social. Follow the conversation here http://tweetchat.com/room/bmgchat
Spotify attains 1 million paying subscribers
After launching two years ago, Spotify, a European-based music service has reached over 1 million paying subscribers. Spotify, who also provides a free service, allows users unlimited streaming of over 10 million tunes. Originally from Sweden, they have over 9 million free subscribers across the U.K., France, Finland, Netherlands, Spain, and Norway. Looking to branch out into the US, Spotify is apparently in talks with major record labels and close to finilazing a deal. There is also rumor that a big round of funding is to be arranged, but seeing as they lost 26.7 million in 2009, there is still a long way to go before money is coming in rather than out.
LivingSocial now offers InstantDeals: local and short-term deals
LivingSocial is taking a bigger part of local ad markets by offering local and short-term deals (Instant Deals) to mobile users within a half-mile radius. Currently testing in Washington D.C., Instant Deals will be live for no more than 24 hours at a time. Over 44 merchants have signed up for the program such as Equinox, a local restaurant, who needs to drive traffic during slow days. This new location-based service is said to be more advantageous to merchants on a day-to-day basis.
Tweet “Mac & Cheese” and Kraft will reward you
Kraft has launched a new Social Media campaign to increase their follower base and it has all to do with mac & cheese. If a user has “mac & cheese” in their tweet, Kraft will automatically send that user a link to “Mac & Jinx.” The first person to give their address gets five free boxes of mac & cheese as well as a Kraft T-shirt. Not too bad considering it’s Kraft’s first attempt to a social media campaign, but it’s a little too simple to our liking. Let us users do something to get rewarded and not just tweet about it, we already do that!
Charlie Sheen is all over the place, but mostly on Twitter
Charlie Sheen has been all over the press and the news lately. His tiger blood, goddesses, and winning attitude have lead him to start selling ad space on Twitter. Sheen tweeted, “I’m looking to hire a #winning INTERN with #TigerBlood. Apply here – http://bit.ly/hykQQF #TigerBloodIntern #internship #ad.” The tweet was retweeted 8,000 times in two minutes with more than 127,000 clicks to internship.com (the paying sponsor.) Charlie Sheen holds the Guiness World Record for fastest Twitter growth by reaching 1 million in 25 hours and 17 minutes. He is unemployed and yet manages to make news’ headlines everyday as well as huge sponsorship contracts. What a winner!
